Summer Camp Activities You Can Try at Home
By Camp Waziyatah
With summer camp on hiatus, many kids are looking for exciting activities until school starts. While the team at Camp Waziyatah is eager and excited for summer 2021, we want to provide a way for kids to still have a blast this summer. Read on for some summer camp activities you can try right from the comfort of your own home.
Scavenger Hunt: There are tons of resources online to create a scavenger hunt at home. Using things you have at home and your own backyard, kids can spend hours going on lengthy scavenger hunts with friends. This is also a great indoor activity!
Check out Good Housekeeping’s list of scavenger hunts
Tie Dying T-Shirts: This is an excellent way for kids to express themselves and delve into their creative side. All you need are some t-shirts, tie dye, rubber bands and gloves. Amazon sells entire kits or you can pick up materials at your local art shop.
Arts & Crafts: Don’t worry about spills and stains! There are plenty of mess-free arts and crafts you can do with your kids. In fact, arts & crafts is one of the best activities to do as a family. While everyone is working on their project, you can talk about movies, music, your child’s favorite summer camp activities, what they’re looking forward to at camp next year, etc. Try making friendship bracelets, jewelry, coloring, or creating classic woven potholders.
Backyard Camping: If your kids feel too cooped up during quarantine and miss bunk life, have them spend a night outside camping. Create a campfire with marshmallows and tell stories!
Backyard Field Games: Create an at-home Color War with some backyard field games. Get in a game of kickball, capture the flag or tug-of-war. Do you have games you played as a child that you’d like to show your children? This is a great opportunity!
Join us at Camp Waziyatah Next Summer
The staff at Camp Waziyatah is already gearing up for summer 2021. We’re thrilled to re-open camp safely for o ur 100th anniversary! At our summer camp, we offer a wide variety of activities including tubing, archery, jewelry making, wake surfing, canoeing, water skiing and “The Blob”! We also have beautiful, rustic cabins for campers to relax in the evening, play ice breakers and talk about their day. Time in the cabin is valued by our campers as this is where friendships build. All of our staff members have been thoroughly trained and are here to encourage kids to break out of their shell and try new activities! As our director always says: “Great happens outside your comfort zone!”
